Which test am I taking?

It depends on the date you filed Form N-400, not on your interview date.

• On or after October 20, 2025 — the 2025 test. 128 questions; the officer asks up to 20 and you need 12 correct.
• Before October 20, 2025 — the older test. 100 questions; the officer asks up to 10 and you need 6 correct.

Your filing date is on the receipt notice USCIS sent you (Form I-797C). The app asks you once and you can change it later under Which test.

The officer's voice sounds robotic

iOS ships with a basic voice and lets you download much better ones for free. Go to Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices › English and download one marked Premium or Enhanced. The app picks it up on its own — no setting to change here.

It says it didn't hear me

The app tells you what it heard so you can tell the difference between a wrong answer and a microphone problem. If it heard nothing, that answer is not counted against you.

If it never hears you: check that the microphone is allowed under Settings › US Citizenship Test Out Loud, and that Speech Recognition is on in the same place. You can also tap Type it instead at any time.

It marked my answer wrong and I think it was right

USCIS accepts several different answers for most questions, and the app is built to accept all of them. If it rejected something an officer would accept, that is a bug and we want to know. Send the question and exactly what you said.

My governor is missing

Six states block automated access to their official sites, so those governors are not loaded yet. The app says so rather than guessing. Every name it does show carries the date it was verified and a link to the USCIS updates page, which is the authority.

I paid and the interview mode is still locked

Open the interview mode and tap Restore purchase. The unlock is tied to your Apple Account, so it works on every device you sign in with, and you never pay twice.

Do you have my data?

No. There is no account and no server of ours. Your voice is turned into text on your iPhone and never leaves it. See the privacy policy.

Refunds

Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too: reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue them ourselves.
